Going to SS on Friday for the first time

Hi all

We are off to SS on Friday for our first visit for 2 weeks and cant wait.  Just a couple of questions please if anyone can help:

Is it worth taking a snorkel and if so where is the best part of the beach to go to snorkle

Do we need beach shoes to go into the sea or not - not sure if it is rocky or not

Dont want to take these things if not needed as trying to keep the weight down in the suitcase as we are only taking the one case.

We are not hiring a car this holiday but would like to know if there is a bus that runs between local towns.

Thanks and any other advice you may have would be grately appreciated.

You can snorkel on any part of the beach ther are rocks at the harbour end but not of the main beach.
You dont need beach shoes on the main beach or in the sea'
There is about one bus a day into corfu town but i think it takes a while to get there.

bus Stops can be found outside the Nafsika, another by the Barras Appts and finally one by the Sunset Taverna. Look for the sign:

Merlin40, welcome to the site.
The best spot for snorkelling, is outside the old and new harbour's.
The old harbour is at the Church end of the beach, years ago, the popular snorkelling spot was where the new Harbour has been built.
Now though, people go to the new harbour, then snorkel off the end of the headland which has clear water, but don't do this in rough weather,
as the currents get strong!
It's rocky but no shingle or coral - so you should not need shoes.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

One more question please will it be warm enough in the evenings from this Friday onwards to just wear shorts and tops in the evening or will we need long trousers and jumpers?  The weather forecast is very good but I dont know what the evenings are like as in some places you always seem to get a breeze. We dont want to take unneccessary clothing as we are only taking one suitcase.  Thanks a lot.

Wife and daughter came back last friday..wife says deffo take a cardigan if the weather is the same, can be a bit breezy, and cold out of the sun... mind you she`s a softy

Always go last week in June and shorts order of the day (and night). Never taken long sleeves  or socks!

I think you'd be mad ever to go to Greece without at least a sweatshirt. It can feel really cold if the wind's blowing. Judging from last year, the west coast of Corfu enjoys a bit of wind. I don't!

That's very true - that it always seems to have a breeze from very gentle - to windy.
Early & late season - I take my Jumper just in case, but in the town - I have hardly ever needed it,
high season - you won't need one!

I always take a light jacket but have hardly ever needed it when we go end of August

We normally go late june early july, this time its 5th july for2weeks and i have never taken anything other than tee shirts and shorts

No southern softies here
