Prices in San Steffanos
Jimbo:
I will not rise to Tony's provocation. Really I won't. I won't.
IT IS PROHIBITED FOR NON-SMOKERS TO COMMENT IN THIS THREAD. THERE IS A £7,000,000 PENALTY. IF YOU WANT TO DISCUSS IT, GO OUTSIDE AND STAND IN THE RAIN. THE PSYCHIATRIST GENERAL HAS DETERMINED THAT NOT SMOKING MAKES PEOPLE INSUFFERABLY SMUG AND BORING.
Good. That's cleared the air.
Cigarette prices are controlled in Greece and are the same everywhere, so there is no point shopping around. As of mid July the pack of 25 GRs in front of me cost 3.2 Euros. A pack of 20 Leader cost 2.4 Euros. Non-Greek fags cost a bit more, but not a huge amount. We always buy the local fags to support the local industry and because they're cheaper and because you can't get a good Greek accent without the special quality of phlegm in the back of the throat that you get from the brilliant weed they've being growing since the dawn of civilisation (or its arrival from America, whichever came first).
In the UK 2009 statistics reported an average 52 pubs closing a week because of the non-smoking ban. The Greek response to their non-smoking ban has been to ignore it and carry on as usual.
Vive la Grece!

It was too much for you Jim - wasn't it! LOL
We had a massive amount of postings on the subject last year and we ended up agreeing to disagree!
So I didn't want it to light-up again!! But It's great to breath some fresh air!
In my opinion, Most Pubs closed because of the Drink-Drive repercussions - more so than smoking.
I no longer use them because I can't get there easily, or on the rare occasion,
I find I can only have 1 drink! I used to go to pubs all the time before! and - the prices!!!
sharris:
ha ha, thank you JIMBO !!!!
Tony - behave and go sit on the naughty step
i was only asking about prices - thanks folks for updates
roll on 3 weeks friday !!!!!
Jimbo:
I'll ask Joe - barman and sabbatical physicist at Little Prince - to send me a definitive fag price guide.
Very important to remember that you can bring back at least 3,000 cigarettes per person. In the crazy world of smoking logic, you can justify the cost of the holiday in relation to what you would have spent on ciggies if you hadn't gone.
And finally: No Tony - the steep decline in pubs is NOT the drink/drive. Statistically it follows the smoking ban - or what we could otherwise describe as the prohibition on doing something perfectly legal, which generates vast amounts of revenue, irrespective of the wishes of the owner or landlord.
My view is (in the UK) either ban tobacco completely or accept the right of people, including landlords, to make a choice. Anything else seems to me to be hypocritical.
tonyco1:
Ha-Ha - Jim! only a smoker would say that - the great divide - eh!!
LOL
