New to board
« on: August 29, 2011, 02:58:00 PM »
Hi to all,

I have just joined the board to find out information and news on San Stefanos.  I have booked to stay at Vicky Apartments next August/Sept and am looking to learn what you all know about the island and what I have to look forward to.  Apartments look lovely and Suzy has kindly offered to book taxis for me so we dont have to sit on the coach for 2 hours.  All your reviews/topics look interesting and am looking forward to learning more in the coming months.

Have been to Kefalonia for the past 5 years and although we love it there am looking forward to trying something different.  Went to Corfu (Messonghi beach) when I was 19 so have not been back for 30 years.

Looking forward to this board......

Cheryl

I'm in San Stef at the moment staying at Tereza's. It's our 1st time here and it certainly  won't be our last. We love it here. Wonderful place and wonderful people.

Hi Cheryl,
Welcome to the forums. As you have probably noticed everyone on here is nice and friendly and that is also the case for the people in the village. If you need to know anything in particular just ask and someone usually will know the answer. We are going back on Friday for our 11th visit as indeed many others on here are also return visitors. :) :) :) :)

Gavlah, we have been staying in Lassi for the past 5 holidays, lovely apartment just by the beach and nice friendly owners.  This year though we felt something was missing (not with apartment or owners I hasten to add) but just something.  We thought we probably needed a change so that is why we have booked San Stefanos and the Vicky apartments which look just what we are looking for.  I always book my holiday for the next year when I return from my last one (I know, I am sad as many have told me  :D) but my way of looking at is is, I have something to look forward to.

I promise I wont go on countdown (52 weeks to go etc) until nearer the time  8)

Hi Cheryl, was interested to hear that you had been to Lassi in Kefalonia for the past 5 years as we also had also done that and like you fancied a change. Although we loved Kefalonia once we found this idyllic corner of corfu we have never looked back and next year will be our 10th consecutive year. I hope you grow to love San Stefanos just as much as us. Michele

We only travelled through Lassi a few times and my mate also stayed in Lassi for his wedding. Bear in mind I'm basing this on 'just passing through' but we much preferred Skala! I think Lassi benefits from a nicer beach, better sunsets and benefits from being near Argostoli but I just found Skala a much more authentic Greek experience! The Nine Muses was gorgeous, Greek friendliness with American effiency!!
I do find Skala and San Stef similar, same size etc, both having just a couple of livelier bars versus the rest of the resort which is made up of Tavernas/Hotel Bars.
You'll love San Stef.....I'd return tomorrow but I think if push came to shove my missus would plump for Kefalonia. Must admit the reception we got from the staff/family at the Romanza in San Stef takes some beating anywhere I've been in the world!

Hope time flies for you

Hi Shelly and everyone.
Another newbie to the forum, although not to San Stef. I'm another one who likes to book as soon as possible after coming back from holiday, not only does it give you something to look forward to, but also the earlier you book the better the price you get. I have just booked to go to the Nafsika at the end of July 2012 for 2 weeks  and since I booked it has gone up over £100!! how can Thomsons warrant these price increases in such a short time period. So if like me you have to go in the school holidays book as earlier as you can to get the best prices - it is only a small deposit and it gives you more time to pay for it.

My thoughts exactly Rob - I like to have something to look forward to.  We usually go last week in Aug and 1st in Sept but this year as we had friends who have a villa in Kef and who asked us to stay with them for a week, we went in early July for a week with them and then a week following that down in Lassi in our usual place.  It feels so long ago now that I was having withdrawal symptoms of looking forward to a holiday so I booked one  ;D

Welcome Rob

We too like to book our hol early as it deffo gives you something to look forward too. I do, however think its a bit of a roulette re the price with Thomsons. They seem to be cheap early on, then go up then they can also come back down again!! You take your chance...........!!

Agree totally Gavlah, you pay your money and take your chances, although booking early gives you a better choice, especially during the school holidays. Although the choices are always hard as everywhere in S.S. seems to be good.

Welcome to the forum Cheryl and Robtc,
We have been returning to Agios (San) Stefanos for the last 28 years now and know others even longer.
We would never go anywhere twice before coming here, but look forward to it every year now, as one of our holidays.
(we do holiday somewhere different every other time), as Ag.Stefanos always feels welcoming, fresh and is a place you do not tire of.
You will love it here I am sure, enjoy!!

Hi Di

Sure you'll love it!! From memory best restaurants were....The Old Village, Symposium(on the front), White Horse (Sounds like a Brit pub but isnt), Flamingo, Aquarious, Pines. All very good and all along similar lines to restaurants in San Stefanos. There's also an old boat on the beach that's been turned into a restaurant.....its just a bit out of Skala but was gorgeous food!! The only difference was a cant remember any Greek dancing whilst we were there!!
Hire a car and do the Island Tour......you need to see Myrtos Beach (gorgeous), a village called Assos (so peaceful & tranquil) and also Fiskardo (full of beautiful people and big yachts!!)

Nice island, you'll love it
