Tablet 3G
« on: July 04, 2012, 01:30:40 AM »
Am coming to San Stefanos next week and I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab with 3G (unlocked) which I'd like to take
with me to browse the internet using its 3G slot but have a few
questions to see if this is possible.  Firstly is there any 3G/HSDPA
coverage?  If so, I was thinking of buying a Greek pay as you go sim
card as I assume the data rates will be much cheaper than taking a
pay as you go sim card from the UK (the normal one I use is very pricey for
roaming) - are there any Greek network simcards that would be a good
buy from the area, where would I be able to buy one if they exist?
I've heard it's possible to buy foreign sim cards in the UK which
would be handy as I could get the tablet set up before I go so it's
ready when I'm on holiday. Any suggestions as to where I might get one?

3G coverage on Corfu is patchy, but there are plenty of free WiFi sources in Ag Stef. Why would you specifically want to use 3G?

It was just for if I was out of Wifi reception it would be handy for looking up information if I needed to find out something enroute. My son is an IT engineer and he suggested it might be worthwhile checking out if it was available.

You could well get lucky. But the charges might be extremely high.

For info - Greek pay as you go sims are available but you have to register for one with the company network you choose here which probabaly would involve a trip to the resort of Acharavi, to Wind, Vodafone or Germanios.
I use wifi around resort and there are plenty of places for free wifi in most resorts, so if you went to Sidari or Arillas for example on a day out you would also get it there.

Thanks for your reply Lesley. I think I'll just make do with the WiFi where it's available. I usually use my phone for the internet when I'm away but thought the bigger screen of the tablet would be easier on my eyes if i can get online with it.

Agree with Jimbo and Lesley, a mobile signal comes and goes and as for 3g only if you stand on top of cardiac hil (either of them) and jump up and down with your tab in the air !

Is that a song lyric  ::)

May be a song lyric but also borders on getting yourself arrested waving your tab about in daylight  ;D

Sounds like Benson may be on a wanted poster for this, waving your tab is only permitted on a certain part of the beach!!!
