Jimbo:
I can only imagine that the bookings for weddings next year will be up. In terms of free advertising, that was pretty spectacular!

Unfortunately, thousands of people will be poring over maps of Corfu to find "San Stefanos," a fictional place which exists only Thomson's brochures.

As far as the economy goes, rose-tinted spectacles are all very well, but Greece now has over 50% youth unemployment and rising poverty levels. Irini, at Mistral, told us yesterday that in Athens people are putting signs on rubbish bins saying "If you're throwing food away, please leave it outside." It would be outrageous if the programme-makers ignored the economic background. This is supposed to be a documentary series, not a commercial.

lizzie:

I have to say - a "Corfiot" ordering food from U.K., i don't think so. Sorry but there are two  very well stocked supermarkets in the N.W. several bigger ones in Corfu town.
I listen to the Brits. saying they want real bread ? we have great healthy homemade(made with flour) bread delivered to our door. real milk ? where does english milk come from ?, our comes from a cow..
Sorry but i get so angry -don't try to change the the place just change yourself. The real Corfiots will have more respect for you.
Relax and enjoy , but this is not England.

Considering the poor state of the economy was mentioned in the opening sequence, and several times throughout the first episode, I'm struggling to see how the programme makers can be accused of ignoring it?

Jimbo:
lizzie was implying thta - unless I misunderstood.
