What a lovely day/food

Tredegar Boy:
Good evening all,

Awoke this morning with blue skies and a strange yellow thing in the sky, not seen in these parts (South Wales) since late October. Hopefully we'll get some respite from the incessant rain and 100 mile and hour winds now.

What I want to tell you is my youngest son, who is preparing for his GCSE Catering exam in early March, did a dry run today and its was spectacular. The theme is "food of the world" and he has to research and prepare a two course meal from any country. He chose Greek and today was a dress rehersal.

He had 2 hours 15 mins to prepare and cook the meal. He did lamb Kleftico with carrots, green beans and parsnips roasted in a bag with garlic and parmasan cheese placed in numerous little holes in the flesh. He also prepared roast potatoes in olive oil and rosemary. It was stunning. The mains was followed by Loukoumades, a dough (similar to doughnuts) covered in syrup and some cinnamon. They were gorgeous but I only had three of them as I'm on a diet.

We had a CD from Zorba's playing in the background with the sun shining through the dining room windows. If you closed your eyes you could have been anywhere in San Stef enjoying its delights.

This has got us in the mood and feel spring is around the corner and soon it will be that time again.

Jimbo:
Perfect. He can come here and practise any time he likes!

diane13:
:) What a lovely way to spend the day

Jimbo:
I'm sure Spiros would be happy for him to spend a little time in the kitchen at Nafsika in the summer. He would be loved. adored, told off, and taught a lot by Theodora.

loftyscot:
Nice one. Think I'll have a word with the Scouts to see if they could introduce a new Greek cooking badge for my boy :-)
