exploring corfu
(1/1)
spikeyb:
We plan on hiring a car when staying in san stefanos this year as we have not been to the southern part of corfu and wondered if anybody can recommend places to visit in the south,

Hi spikeyb. There is so much to see,and all special in its own way. Everybody has their own idea of whats good or not. A sugestion, what we first did.we had a car for 3 days, and headed south.Take the small roads,Arillas, St George, paleokastritsa.maybe take the road up to Afionas ,just before St George, very scenic....Head for Pelekas, take a walk up to Kaisers throne, fantastic views across the island. We liked it so much, we stayed over, had a great room for 35 euro..must say we took a bag with us with overnight things..next day we drove down to Lake Korission,if you see somthing you like, just stop and take a look.No reason to go like the clappers. Its quiet to drive down, just take your time in the mountains as the roads have bad subsidence in lots of places. Second night we had a room in Hlomos, not far from the lake.following day we came back up the east coast.Wasent excited about the drive up to Corfu town ,busy road, lots of lorries etc. After Corfu town we did the east coast, ipsos ,Pygri,Nissaki...If feeling brave take the road up to Pantokrator from Pyrgi. Not alot at the top but superb views...There was just the 2 of us,dont know your situation..Hope this gives you some thoughts on your trip.Just dont worry about geting lost, take your time and enjoy what Corfu offers.

Thanks rilo57, we have already been on a trip to pantokrator so probably wouldnt do that, but the other suggestions sound good, its always helpful to hear what other people think of places, it will just be my husband and me so we have nobody else to please but ourselves :)
Lesley:
In my honest opinion if you really want to explore the south of the island (That is Corfu town southwards as so far all the posts here are for anything North of town) you need to think about an overnight stay as from NW to South its on a direct drive 2 hours each way. If you are interested in a b/b hotel overnight to really appreciate the south maybe we can assist here......too much to see south that I can put on post here....its a thought though.....
spikeyb:
Hi lesley, only just noticed your reply, hadn't actually thought about an overnight stay In the south but may be worth thinking about
