Fisherman George ;(
« on: February 15, 2014, 06:53:25 PM »
Hi

I had word this from friends in village that fisherman George is very very ill and is not expected to make it :(

We heard thet he was detriorating when we were over in August and we sent some fruit and old pictures of us all (with him in) up to him to let him know we were thinking of him.

We struggled to get a straight answer on his illness but allowing for translation, we understood its a motot neurone type condition.

He is only a similiar age to me and one of the sweetest and nicest men Ive had the pleasure to know.

It is in Gods hands now but I for one am praying for a miracle.

xx

Such a terrible disease.

I recently lost a close friend to motor neurone disease, at the age of 32 after a 3 year battle. A terrible way to go, and such a sad loss!

I don't know George but wish him, and his family,  all the best!

Received word from Spiros (bikes) this morning that George has died.

He was only the same age as me (40) so very sad indeed.

I will always remember him for his wide dazzling smile and mop of sandy hair - such a handsome young man.

RIP George.
xx

Sad news Silverstar.
Didn't meet George (he was I believe already poorly when we arrived in the village last year), but heard people talk of him.

George a true San Stefanos guy known as fisherman George, he had until a few years ago the Mistral Taverna on the beach.  Very sad news R.I.P George he is now in the best place after what can only have been a painful journey with his illness.  Just 42 years old. The funeral is tomorrow Thursday in Avliotes at 5pm.    It is a sad day  :'(

Had many a superb meal with him at the Mistral, how he ever made any money with such huge portions was a mystery!! How utterly sad. :'(

Very sad news. An abiding memory of the village is of spending one late October afternoon helping him clear up the Mistral and doing a huge amount of washing, up eating  various bits of fish sent from the kitchen. He would not let me go without taking a bottle of Metaxa (7!) from the  shelf. , Lovely lovely man. I trust that his funeral was incredibly well attended.

Sad sad news . Think I got the right person .? Is it the George who used to be a waiter in one of the tavernas before taking on the Mistral . Think it was Thomas bay...?  He used to ride a blue moped about too if memory serves me right. Always smiling and always took time to say hello.?

We first met George when we went into the Thomas Bay for a meal,George was our waiter. He served my wife Margaret with roast beef. she took one look and refused to eat it,thereafter George new my wife as the lady who did not lift her knife and fork. Lovely, lovely man,we had some lovely meals in the Mistral where his wife did the cooking. we will miss him so much. Rest in peace George.
