I'm sorry to say much of this isn't new to San Stef. Last year when I wrote my review of our holiday I drew reference to the battle for supremacy between the bars on the main road as to who could be the loudest. Between Bar38 and 2Stars it was awful. each place having their chosen style of music as loud as bearable. We struggled to have a conversation sitting on the Bar38 decking it was that bad.

I'm not sure what the owners of these places are trying to achieve by doing this but it alienates a lot of people who then choose to stay down the old end or retire early to their digs for a few bevvies (not easy to do if you're staying in the centre though I appreciate that).

Yes I also noted that Bar 38 was incredibly loud last June. So loud that it has always deterred me from venturing in for a drink, which is a shame.

This seems to me to be utterly self-defeating. Instead of attracting people it will cause them to go elsewhere. Or the kind of people going to the village will change, and the village will not be the same.

I hate tribute bands. Proper musicians play their own music in their own way. Second-rate musicians imitate.

Partly agree Jimbo, however it's always pleasant to hear familiar songs performed well, and it's fun to see people dancing and  singing along on holiday. However,  you still need to be able to talk, and hear one another. When  we cant find somewhere within the bar to chat and enjoy the best of both worlds we move along to a quieter bar. Can't understand why some owners can't get this simple balance right.

Remember the customer is always right.Make a point of going into a bar that is overly loud and telling the owner/bar staff that you fancied stopping for a drink and a chat but it's far too loud and leave.Money talks!

Sellsy - Totally agree about levels. But people can perform familiar songs without pretending to be the original singer, which I think is naff.

I can do a pretty good Over The Rainbow, but I'd look a bit stupid trying to be Judy Garlan!
