The "deal" is not actually much of a deal. Greece has been hauled into the headmistress' office and lined up for more years of humiliating spanking.

I normally try to stay objective about these things, but this morning I am incandescent with anger. "No debt relief," says Merkel, flagrantly disregarding the vast wrote-offs of debt the Germans were given in 1945 and the trillions of dollars pumped into the German economy.

It's now seems clear to me at least that Germany is actually the government of Europe, and all the other countries are merely local councils. Contempt for the poor is now endemic, including the UK. The Greeks are accused of tax evasion - but trillions of pounds are avoided by multinationals and UK companies.
