Insurance companies beware is what I would say. I would hate to think how much we paid out for insurance over the years. I’ve not checked, but suspect it is actually less these days per year. However, being reasonably fit and healthy (not that it covers you) for my age, I would consider simply ignoring holiday insurance and covering the risk for ourselves. We did this for almost 10 years and may well do so again. Of course if we had underlying health issues I would think differently, there again I/we would likely simply not travel.

I think one problem is that we have taken EHICs for granted for a very long time. I shall be writing to my MP asking requesting that she raise the EHIC issue as an urgent matter to relevant ministers. Up until December 31st, if you stagger off the old harbour wall after a night at the Athens Bar and get multiple fractures, you will be hospitalised for nothing; not so next year, as things stand. In those circumstances - ignoring Covid-19 issues - private health insurance seems to me a necessity.

I was on a sailing course on Kefalonia some years ago, and one of the men in the group was asked what he did for a living. He was an actuary. Asked by many to explain, he said " I work out death cover insurance rates." He'd downed a few Amstels, and perhaps foolishly, added "Basically my job is to rip people off."

Sums it up for me!

I work for the NHS.  I would not dare to book this year, my workmates would not be impressed.

We have worked many hours to keep you all safe.

Don’t get me wrong l would love to have gone this year.  But l will wait.

Forgot to mention I’m new on here.

For those of you who are going this year, keep safe.  If you can isolate on your return that might be a good idea.  Mainly applicable to those that are retired.

Why do we have to isolate on our return?

You are more likely to catch the virus in the airport and plane.  That goes for travelling to Corfu, and on your return.

So isolate if you can to protect others.
We are coming up to flu season and believe me we do not want unnessary pressure in the wards.

Common sense

There will be many working people who can't isolate for 2 weeks on their return from their holiday.

It might be simpler to get a test upon return, and isolate for 48 hours. I don't know what it's like where you are, but here in Hull we have drive-through testing centres.

Sounds like a better idea Jim :)

James seems to be the only person on here with first-hand experience of the situation and we should be listening to him! (Welcome by the way!)

It's easy to get tests now, walk in and drive through. We can catch the virus from anywhere. From people who have  been to pubs, restaurants, gyms, supermarkets etc etc.....Corfu has a low infection rate. Yes we could catch it at airports and on planes also, if people want to self isolate they  can . We are being led to  believe that wearing masks, as they are at airports and on planes, will stop transmission, if this is not true, why wear them?

Hi Barbara

Kind words.

I am no expert on Covid 19, no scientist l leave that to others.

I do specialise in palliative care, believe me there has been plenty of that during this pandemic.
