If you’ve been vaccinated you are covered from serious illness or death, isn’t that what we’ve been told ever since the vaccines were approved?

There’s a multitude of illnesses, some more severe than others, that can be passed from one person to the next and we don’t have the right to demand to see other people’s medical records for these illnesses.

At some point each and every one of us is going to have to take control of our own levels of risk. If you are vaccinated and still scared of travelling just incase you may come into contact with an unvaccinated person, then you are going to have to deal with that, or not travel.

The vaccine won't cover all varients of the virus, that is why we won't travel abroad, in the near future.

Thats fair enough and understandable. It’s you taking control of your own acceptable levels of risk. It’s what everyone should be doing.

How can I asses the the risk if I have no information about whether someone else is a potential spreader during a pandemic?

This conversation could be sorted easily.
Vaccine passport, no vaccine no travel, simple!

There are exceptions which have been mentioned before.

I would imagine that on any flight you're going to have a mix of the vaccinated and the unvaccinated for whatever reason (pregnant, medical reasons and those who refused the vaccine). You have to assume that the unvaccinated would have had to provide a recent negative test result to get on the flight, however about a third of people who have the virus don't show any symptoms and a test doesn't show that they have it either. That being the case and knowing that the vaccines aren't 100% affective you're always going to have to accept a risk as things currently stand.

I'm with D&G on this one. We all have to make a judgement and accept the risk if we want to fly.

Yes TB, it is a personal choice, depending on your circumstances and existing health issues.

Everyone is a potential spreader whether they are vaccinated or not remember.

The PCR test WILL detect asymptomatic cases.

Vaccination reduces spread by about 75%.

Risks cannot be assessed without information.

Well not exactly surprising and what we were expecting, JET2 have now cancelled our flights on 21st June. However, as they've done for the previous two times last year, no hassle and we get a full refund in the next few days. I've been really impressed with their customer service during the pandemic.

Now trying to get in contact with the villa owner to see if we can re-book in September when hopefully the travel situation will be a bit better, at least we will both have had our 2nd vaccination by then.

4th time lucky?   ;)

The Greek health minister has just announced that Greece will start vaccinating over 40s in June, providing supplies go to plan. Good news for everybody.

I'm more and more confident that we'll get away in Sept now.

They also reported Greece will reopen May 14th for Tourism - not sure of requirements so far.  A pilot scheme into Rhodes was launched yesterday so we also wait for updates on how this goes.
