Sad News from Ag Stef Beach
« on: July 29, 2020, 10:35:06 AM »
Good morning on this lovely day in Ag Stef.
Sadly there is bad news in that a 15 year old Bulgarian girl drowned here yesterday. I am not aware of any details.
My heart goes out to the girl's parents and family.

I think the sea in San Stef can appear very calm and thats the danger. Always currents and riptides

Yes we could hear a lot of screaming and shouting coming from the beach. Saw and heard the ambulance heading towards the beach. It's so very sad.

Always awful to hear such news and even worse if you are there at the time.

[/size]We stopped going to Crete in 1991 due to the fact 3 people were pulled from the sea, at least 2 of them had unfortunately drowned. The third was a young girl about 21 year old who was blue after been dragged out from only 5m from the shore. We were certain she was dead, but did hear she apparently survived due to the intervention of a hospital surgeon who happened to be there on holiday at the time.  We then decided after hearing how dangerous the sea there actually was that it was not worth the risk with young kids. The only time I’ve heard of any problem in AS has been due to people being stung by flat fish they had stepped on and then being paralysed by the sting. I was quite surprised that they impact some people so badly as I’d seen a few people come out of the sea that had been stung, obviously it was painful, but they were fine within minutes.
