I thought I had read on a previous thread something about check in allowances and the charges made at Corfu on the return journey. Does anyone who has been had any charges for overweight luggage ? I seem to remember the comments made were that they were very strict about this.

hi kemo, the excess baggage charge is 11euro per kilo, i was well under my allowance but i did hear of 1 or 2 people having to pay.

Always take fishing scales and make sure we're under weight!

Kemo - all the airlines have started this now - to catch out people who buy stuff to take home!!
Really strict - I bought digital scales - (now on special offer), and took them with me so both our cases were balanced out,
especially for the return as some airlines will not allow a shared total weight - it's done on individual cases!

Add to this the new maximum european weight of 23Kg for baggage handlers and you can see the problems ahead!
We got caught for £36 last year on the return journey with Thomas Cook, (Dalaman Airport)
they also issued receipts from a standard receipt book at the airport - so obviously going in the back pocket!
No wonder they were so keen!

We came back in July and one of our courses was less than a kilo over and they never said anything.  Maybe they only charge once you get to 21kilos.

Thanks Tonyco1 I shall have a look into buying some scales. A small price to pay when you look at the charges for excess weight.

I went through Corfu Airport on Monday and the excess baggage charge was 12 euro per Kilo overweight

We were travelling through Dalaman last year with our friends and they got charged £36.00, so we have invested in some digital scales also!

We are recently back from Zante and were 5 kilos over, they wanted to charge us 50 Euros!  Stuff that! we transferred a bit to our hand luggage, left some old beach towels and a load of coathangers and were about a kilo over so they let us off.  Was gutted about my coathangers - you can never have too many. Was happy to leave the towels - less washing for me when we got home!!

Did notice a lot of other people paying though!

Colin, me old sweet, are you the Colin from the Colin n Mark, the Colin my dance partner? If so can't see why you had excess when you only had your pyjamas or did you stock up on booze to last until your next visit? lol . Quiet without you but Mark is now in for some serious "partying" lol
