Title: Handy Hints & Tips needed.
Post by: Cerys on November 04, 2011, 03:53:47 PM
I hope that you will all be glad to hear that next years addition of Sun, Sea & ... San Stef (an information leaflet in the style of a news paper about the resort and surrounding areas) is coming alsong nicely. I am currently collecting 'Handy Hints & Tips' and thought who better to ask that you guys for your helpful holiday hints. I am looking for any general tips that guests will find useful, one example being freezing bottles of water and using them as ice packs in a picnic, then drinking the ice cold water as it melts. If anybody has an example feel free to post them here, or send me a private message.
Kind regards.
Cerys

We always buy cartons of fruit juice to freeze then use them for ice packs to drink later on the beach. If using bottles of water leave room at top for expansion or they will split.

We always take  digital suitcase scales   Saves any embarrasmrnt at the airport   A couple of Kilos overweight will cost more than the scales
P S Cerys   We enjoyed the Sun ,Sea & San Stef News paper     Lovely story about Sue & Keith Stanton

Just noticed I cannot spell embarrassment     how embarrassing !

ALways buy your toiletries and sun lotions at home when on BOGOF or 3 for 2 deals.

Buy your toiletries at the airport in departures - saves weight and the possibility of a mess in your bags when you come to unpack, and if there is a Boots in departures then their prices and offers are the same as in the high street.

Last year we bought a Silver insulated bag for the beach from Margarita's supermarket, this was waterproof and brilliant on the beach,
great for fruit, snacks and drinks and a towel, it's also very lightweight in the case, weighs almost nothing, but strong.
It now goes on every holiday where ever we go! Our watermelon slices were still cold hours later.

After trying everything possible for itchy mossy bites, someone says try toothpaste, so I did, and it works, took the itch out straight away.

We always remove as nuch stuff from the packaging as poss. It saves a bit of weight but more importantly its easier for it to be disposed of in the UK rather than on the island. Our concession to being green!

Another good tip!
Taking a Laptop? Netbook? Kindle?

Forget heavy laptop-cases for travel, I use two large bubble-wrap type envelopes (or bubble-wrap), to protect my netbook and kindle.
Brings the weight of hand-luggage right down.

Don't forget to tell your bank if you are travelling abroad just in case you might need to use your credit or debit cards. They will monitor any unusual activity and may put a stop on your card. This has actually saved me this week as my card has been cloned and someone tried to use the fake card in Dominican Republic. The bank immediatley put a stop on my card to prevent any fraudulent use. All this has now cost me is inconvenience whilst I wait for a new card and pin number to arrive.

That is a good tip Jules, when we went to India, I informed my bank, Linda didn't.
Her card was refused when she bought some outfits made to measure, mine was not!
She had to phone her bank, lots of akward time spent on a phone and it still didn't work.
I think I was the silly one as I ended up paying!!
