Title: pre-paid card
Post by: julied on August 15, 2012, 04:01:05 PM
Its me again always asking for help

I am told by the post office that they no longer do euro cheques. They say that they
now have a pre-paid card which can be used anywhere.

I have never seen one before and would be worried that places would not accept it.
Does anyone know of this, where it can be used, where it cant and anything else
I would need to know.

Many thanks

Most places in Ag Stef take them - but worth a survey by some keen forum member!

Its been posted on here recently and we also found this in Kefalonia

Cash is king. Discounts offered if you pay by cash etc. They just don't like dealing with the banks! We had a safe in the room so not a prob for us to take cash

If you pay by a "no commission credit card" (ie Halifax Clarity) you will get the best rate of all.

I've not been offered a discount for paying by cash in Ag Stefanos.

Hi Julied
The best advice I can give is take cash it works everywhere. The best rates are online.Do not get it over the counter in the Post Office due to inferior rates. I always get mine from the P.O online using a P.O credit card you do not pay any transaction charges.

Hi Julied
I take Euros but you can change sterling in the village .You will pay 2%commission but it is  still a better rate than UK high street rates.

I always get it from IcePLC.com - they are very good. They will take telephone orders if you prefer.

Current on-line rates:

Post Office : 1.2350
IcePLC            : 1.2403 (min £500)
FairFX        : 1.2550 (min £700) - but not all customers happy with service.

I'm very happy with FairFX service, used them twice this year, got the best rates and had the Euros delivered the morning after they were ordered.  After you have ordered on-line from them you can phone and specify the denominations required.

Hi julied

We also arrive on the 24th August flying from Manchester this will be our thrid visit.  We always take euros with us and keep them in the safe.  The company we use and have used for the past four years everytime we go away is Travel Fx Ltd all you do is go online and fill in the details and they will send you an email straight back or you can ring them and they will tell you how much you will get for whatever amout you are exchanging and if it is over £500 it is commission free with free special delivery next day .  I will be ordering mine from them tomorrow.  They then send you their bank details and you just either go online and do it through your bank or go into your bank and give them the details. It is really easy - I have used them twice already this year and never have I had a problem.  Their contact details are:
