Title: corfu airport facilities
Post by: sharris on September 13, 2009, 06:33:37 PM
Hi guys,

on this one occasion we are going with Thomas Cook and not our preferred Portland - the flights are through the night both ways.

I wondered if anyone else has been at Corfu airport during the night ie about 3am !!!

Will the duty free shop be open and will we be able to get a coffee ??

Cheers

But a right rip-off, horrible coffee for about £5 a cup!! still remember wanting to drink it because it was so expensive - or I would have chucked it!!

Hello everyone - my first post on this forum.

Corfu airport at night is fine.  This year we stocked up on ouzo and Metaxa in the duty free.  The airport was not so busy as during the day and there was plenty of empty seating in Departures.  But yes, the coffee is a rip-off, I nearly choked when 2 coffees cost me nearly 10€ :o

Looking forward to first stay in SS next year.

Damn airport was a total shambles today with 100% too many travellers trying to get in. It even resorted to sending you out to queue up for the security check to get to airside and that when I got there was half way to Corfu town. Whether the delayed Gatwick flight caused the tailback I do not know( airside clogged up with 250 non moving passengers). The heat was blistering as well so several of those waiting got well fried I reckon. Please can we have an enlarged facility commensurate to the throughput of travellers Mr Kapodistrias?? Excuse me whilst I feel faint.

Dreadful airport! Experienced it in June when we visited San Stef.
Food choice was awful when getting there early morn for return to UK! Probably worst we've experienced in years across the Med. After all these years of receiving tourists, i'm still trying to work out why Greece is so far behind rest of the Med in modernising its airports.

Experience in recent years of Canaries, Alicante on mainland Spain and Faro, Portugal so so much better.

Despite my whinge, prob be back next year!

Thanks Chris
We've booked the Mythos Apartments for 11 days next July.  Thanks to Thomas Cook and their incorrect location map we thought we had booked San Stef NE but it turns out we are heading for NW instead.  Actually quite pleased about this because I had already looked at the Thomas Bay and the other half poo-poo'd it!  So he has got the accommodation he wanted in the resort I wanted!  REsult!

That sounds a great democratic way to pick a holiday! Slightly large than "Kensington by the Sea" the North West San Stefanos though! You will love it!

Yeah, I was a bit afraid we wouldn't fit in with the Kensington on Sea crowd but have no worries about San Stef NW!

Hi the airport at corfu now has improved 100% to what it was 10 years ago it was just a tin shed you got
of the plane and had to walk into airport only 1 carasell had to wait up to 1 and qaurter hours for cases
if your flight was delayed at night nothing was open you could not get food or drinks.
airside had hardly any seats and you walked out the door and got on your plane'

That is true Arry, as I well remember from first going out there in 1991, but even so it is still a regular shambles to grin and bear two or three times a year, and it really ought not to be.

I was told that the Americans are to put money up for airport improvements.

Really?? How bizarre- the only place the yanks have anything to do with Corfu (if it is still going) is the Pink Palace just down the hill from Spiros' supermarket at Agios Gordios. You could tell where it was by hearing 'American Pie' at loud volume.

We first went in '83, but it still seemed to work - they then skimp on money for the re-build and it's still almost as bad!
BUT - we see it as part of the holiday challenge!! Seems to have a little of it's own character - but a lot of other countries and destinations make it seem 50 years old!!
