Dreadful airport! Experienced it in June when we visited San Stef.
Food choice was awful when getting there early morn for return to UK! Probably worst we've experienced in years across the Med. After all these years of receiving tourists, i'm still trying to work out why Greece is so far behind rest of the Med in modernising its airports.

Experience in recent years of Canaries, Alicante on mainland Spain and Faro, Portugal so so much better.

Despite my whinge, prob be back next year!

When we were out in the 2nd half of June we got bitten on a number of occasions and i hadn't been bitten for a number of years in the Med. Found it a real problem in San Stef, but when we bought the cintrenella during our 2nd week (on recommendation) it seemed to keep the blighters away.

Just returned from Carvoeiro on The Algarve (annual jaunt for us for last 8 years) this week and we didn't see a single mosquito, let alone get bitten by one!

You do not have to apologise.
Even if many on this forum are in love with San Stef, and we loved it when we visited in June and will be back next year, this is 2009 and anyone should expect the pool to be cleaned everyday, no matter which country we are visiting.

Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: Evening Meal Review
« on: September 02, 2009, 09:50:54 PM »
Yes Zorbas is touristy compared to some of the other establishments in San Stef, but, hey, in San Stef i'm a tourist!

If it was touristy and food naff then that defo wouldn't float my boat, but the food was v.good in our opinion.
Staff friendly, always smiling, good fun, talkative and not one of those establishments that take your custom for granted. What more could one want from a restaurant?!

Me and my wife went there 3 times back in June. Thought the food was pretty good. Certainly wouldn't put anyone off eating there.

The car is probably the best modern invention of the last 100 years that can be used by everyday folk all over the world.

It gives people freedom of movement to travel where they like, when they like, especially within their own locality or country, and in the main, it's affordable for almost all of society.

And this coming from someone who doesn't drive!

The car's 'freedom of movement' capabilities far outweigh any environmental concerns IMO.

And i'll anticipate some comments that may appear on here in answer to my view:
Except when your car breaks down and it costs the earth to fix
The car is a huge contributor to global warming (questionable - the jury's still out)
Car drivers think they own the roads
The UK govt fleeces car drivers
The oil co.s fleece car drivers
Car drivers have no regard for cyclists

That'll do - the car is here to stay.

How much approx is a taxi from Sidari to SS?  :-\

Wouldn't bother! Went thru' on trip to Corfu Town one afternoon and then on return at about 11 in evening.

First impressions - s#*thole!! The kind of place that's one notch away from Kavos! Ooh i'm becoming such a snob in my old(er) age!

Check out the Abba girls in the Condor bar as well; we thought they were pretty good and entertaining. They also do a blues brothers tribute on the same night.

Charlie, you must post your thoughts on here when you return. Always good to read new San Stef opinions.

Have a great time!

Transfer time? we were about 90 minutes back in June on the thomson coach. Seems long but some nice scenery once you've left the outskirts of Corfu Town.

Yes, there is a fridge in the B&B rooms; very handy. In the B&B rooms you've also got a shower cubicle with doors!!

You must go to Teresa Greek night on a Wednesday; ab fab! You'll love Leo, Fannis and Nikos who run the place. Great views over the bay from the pool and bar terrace. Great staff there as well.

It's a small hike up the hill from San Stef village, but not too taxing.

You'll find plenty of reviews of restaurants on here. I think it's fair to say we all have our favourites in San Stef.
We visited Little Prince - ace sizzling steak.
Nafsika Hotel - liked the food there.
Waves on the beach - had lunch there a few times; my wife thought the stuffed tomatoes were divine - she even cooked some for tea this evening at home - aren't i lucky!
Paradise - larger portions; good food.
Teresa itself - had two meals there on an evening before going into town and greek night food is v.good. Also very reasonable for lunch.
Ozzy Oils - v.nice food and twist to standard greek fare, but nice change.
Beachcombers - on the beach, great views of the sunset, not particularly greek i suppose, but high quality stuff - we visited it twice during our 2 weeks.
Finally Zorbas - OK a bit touristy, plenty of greek dancing, fire, etc, but it was my wife's favourite - lovely selection of different lamb dishes we had on the 3 occasions we visited!

Can honestly say we didn't have a bad meal in our 2 weeks and great value. Even the more expensive beachcomber was only 50 euros for the two of us, in total, for 3 courses and a bottle of wine..

Enjoy! Because we certainly did. It was only our 2nd time in San Stef (stayed 16 years ago - what took us so long?!). Almost certainly returning next year...hopefully to Terezas, but if not, somewhere else in San Stef.

Have to agree with Tony on this one. I think if one was going to one of those remote all-inclusive type hotels then luxury is almost a must have, because you're at the hotel all the time. But SS is so intoxicating actually staying in your hotel all the time is not really necessary.

I smoked from the age of 11, until i was about 31, then gave up. 16 years on from that 1st smoke-free day in 20 years i will freely admit i hate it these days with a passion.

The advent of smoke free pubs and restaurants in the UK is brilliant! I don't have to breathe in other people's smoke. No longer coming home after a night out reaking of smoke!

So smoking is part of Greek culture...hmmm....knife crime seems to be part of UK culture in recent years, but i wish it wasn't!

as for this romantic vision of a greek waiter taking an order with a tab in the other hand or mouth, i bet you wouldn't be so accomodating if he brought your food to the table at the same time as some ash spilling on your food!

C'mon it's a filthy habit and as for the freedom/liberty stuff it's also my choice to tell you to stop blowing smoke across my 'space' and believe me i will.

Someone earlier said about the UK "making us smoke in the street wasnt really the way forward". Yes it was, brilliant idea!

Bah humbug!
