Yannis - glad to hear about the mozzie screens - simple but effective

I can't understand why more hotels/apartments don't use them ?

This is standard practice with the big boys!
First in any accomodation, they cover their costs with an early better deals.
Once target for Teresa's is reached and if other Apt's below their Target,
they pump up the price to encourage  people to book elasewhere.
Then to keep sales up - A special cost cutting sale - i.e. £100 per couple off this weekend, (still a little dearer than before)
is run every now and again!!
Sound familiar??

Thomson's are past masters of this financial manipulation.

I see what you are saying BUT Portland and Thomson are both part of TUI .. why so much a price difference between them ?

Just looked again at Portland and Thomson for the same 2 weeks I have just booked

Thomson are asking approx £270 MORE for the exact same holiday .. WHY??  ???

got mine from crown currancy exchange on monday 1.1625 to the £ best rate i have seen wiil not get till may 17th some people worry as you pay then get it later but we have had no trouble we have been getting it here for years

Zoe who are crown currency ??

Edit: .. just googled them, I see now, its taking a bit of a gamble with long term exchange rates
I'm sure theres much better rates if you were changing say £1000 ... I'll have a look with forex and the like

I have always booked with Thomson in the past.Next year I will be booking direct because the Romanza has a number of rooms available for direct booking.
Based on this years prices it would cost me 383 pounds for the hotel /2weeks. This would leave me 617 pounds to pay for two Jet2 flight from Leeds plus transfers. If I get in early for the flight I believe both the Romanza and I could make a profit. The main reason is the money should go to the local economy and not some faceless multinational.

Yannis

When I tried booking the Romanza direct they didn't have any rooms, in future I will try way in advance
and Easyjet are so much cheaper when the flights first come out some 7 - 9 months before departure.

In this instance Portland were cheaper for me, by some £160 compared to the exact SAME holiday thru Thomsons  :-\

Mikee,

Skiathos is one of my favourite places also.  The prices got a little silly what with the Abba mania going on and the locals taking advantage.  They may have shot themselves in the foot though as I'm led to believe that the tourists numbers are dwindling somewhat.  We are by no means "cheap skates" by the way, just dont like being "ripped off".  Which brings me back to San Stef, which I feel is great value and more friendly with it being smaller.  I have not visited Parga, do you recommend it?

Rod

Yes Parga is one of those places people return to time and time again (bit like SS I guess) !

I went to Kefalonia the year after Captain Corelli was released and they did the same ripping people off big time, so never went back

For those that don't already KNOW .. if you price a holiday with Thomson, check the same holiday with PORTLAND

If they do the same holiday they are often cheaper than Thomsons (although both are owned by TUI)  ;)

Certainly can Yannis ... been there 4 times now, BEWARE the mozzies in October tho'  :o

Its getting more and more touristy as people discover it AND expensive (but still a great place)  IMO

Valtos Beach is a nice resort, just along from Parga town which is about a 20 min walk
over a steep hill (Amazing views all across to Corfu) or there are water taxis that go between the 2

Mikee,

I dont obviously know your personal tastes, but my wife and I love this resort.  We adore Greece and have been to a lot of the islands including the mainland and San Stef is way up there as one of our favourites.  The food choice and quality is second to none.  The resort itself is pretty relaxing and very friendly.  We love long walks and we found the area to be excellent with some stunning views.  To conclude and re-enforce the point, my wife will not stay ANYWHERE for longer than one week or perhaps ten days maximum, it was her idea to book again this year for TWO WEEKS.

Rod.

Been to Greece and her islands many many times Rod .. Parga and Skiathos being my favourites

Have actually been to Corfu about 18 years ago - Ipsos (from what I rem) .. but I think SS is gonna be heaps better though  8)
