Where to stay / Re: Tsaros Apartments
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:49:27 PM »
You will have a brilliant time at the Tsaros.
By normal Greek standards the apartments are 5 star!, and so is the welcome you will receive from Nikos and Thanassis.
The hill is quite steep but not too far - if you are reasonably fit it will be a doddle. I am 68 and suffer from breathing problems, but i found that if I stopped a couple of times, and rested my plastic bags full of purchases from the supermarket, i could make it as far as the bar in one piece. On that subject , you can get bottled water from the bar at supermarket prices, to save you carrying it up the hill.
My wife and I were there last June for the first time, but it wan't be the last. In fact my wife went back there last September with our daughter - and half the people who were there when i went were back again on my wifes second visit.
Have a great time

Just heard the great news - we stayed at the Tsaros in last 2 weeks of June. Congrats Thannasi and Christina - the babies will have a wonderful caring home.

I ALWAYS TAKE IT WITH WATER - LEARNT MY LESSON MANY MOONS AGO.
MY FAVOURITE WAY TO END THE DAY IS TO ORDER A KARAFAKI OF OUZO, A BIG JUG OF ICE AND A BOTTLE OF WATER, AND MIIX THEM MYSELF. WHAT  A WAY TO UNWIND

Having travelled around greece for many years, in a few days time we will be visiting SS for the very first time.
I have read on here that drinks prices are very reasonable - 2.5 for large beer, 2 for ouzo.
My question is - what size of ouzo? Some places give you  a measure not much more than a double in England, whilst other tavernas give you practically a tumbler full! I like to finish a meal off at night with a "karafaki" of ouzo - that is, a 200ml small bottle (preferably plomari). Anyone know if these are widely available, and if so  at what price?
