Where to eat out in San Stefanos? / Re: New restaurant?
« on: May 06, 2022, 12:49:33 PM »
Yes, definitely a new restaurant. The concrete footings were put in place last season, directly opposite Olympia, and the build is now almost complete. The new venture is owned by Nicola & George (from The Perros Hotel) and they've been running the bar and restaurant at Vicky's for the last couple of years. I was in touch with Nicola recently about booking 2 weeks in September at The Perros and she said they're hoping to have the new restaurant open towards the end of May 😀

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Day 2 Tests
« on: August 24, 2021, 12:28:20 PM »
We've been lucky enough to have 2 separate holidays in the last couple of months and due to certain circumstances tried different providers. First of all we used the Randox option (£48 each) and requested the post to home test. This one was fine, but as you do it yourself and post it back to them it seems a bit of a farce as there was no checks at all that you've done the test correctly. We have been doing our own LFT's twice weekly, so we're confident it was correct, but I thought the whole idea of a PCR test was that it was done professionally, hey ho.  Second time around and after returning from San Stef last week we used the drive-through Express Test option at Birmingham Airport (£60 each). This was very well organised and a very thorough medical professional completed the test. Results from both providers came through in about 24 hours.

The antigen testing in resort was also a very different experience. First we used the Eurofins test at Fuerteventura airport (27 Euro each), very thorough and provided by medical professionals in full PPE), results back in about 30 minutes. Whilst in San Stef (30 euro) we booked into the local clinic (opposite Condor). Good communication by email to be fair to them, but the actual test hardly touched the sides (one poke) and seemed very light touch. Result was back in 24 hours.

Hopefully the need to pay for these type of test will disappear soon, but for now whilst we have to comply I would say its well worth the additional cost, especially as flight prices are so cheap at the moment. Our Corfu friends are making the experience as good as it can be and are all adhering to covid regulations. The whole holiday felt very safe indeed.

If you need any advice please let me know.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Parga day trip
« on: August 24, 2021, 12:06:13 PM »
Hi hobbes,

Yes, we did it a few years back and was very enjoyable, but very long and tiring day. The boat trip took best part of 2 hours, but you see some lovely coastline en-route to Parga. We had a couple of hours to explore Parga, which is a beautiful but quite busy resort. On the return leg we stopped at Anti Paxos for a dip in the sea from the boat, before stopping at Paxos for a fairly short stop. The return leg then took about an hour back to Corfu Town.

Recommended, but as mentioned a long and tiring day.

Enjoy.

Richard.

Talking to the lady at Beachcomber last week she mentioned it had been sold once again, but we've heard that before. Would be interesting if it ever was refurbished as nature has completely taken over the drive way and grounds now.

San Stefanos news and views / Re: Anyone Else going on Friday 13th ?

Hi Evertonendo,

We normally eat first at Yiannis for a lunch time Gyros, followed by an evening meal at Barras. Then in no particular order: Manthos, Nafsika, Beer O'Clock (new Italian to try this year), Olympia, Little Prince, plus any one other depending on how we get on. As usual not enough time for a 2 week holiday let alone squeezing them into a 1 week break this year!!

Have a great time.

Fingers crossed, it looks like our thrice postponed flights will happen this Thursday 12th August and we're there for a week staying at The Perros once again. Looking forward to acting as tour reps and showing friends the beautiful San Stef, Arillas and further afield. Enjoy 😎

Right, hoping it will be 3rd time lucky for us.

We initially had Ryanair flights booked for 2 weeks in June (my Birthday) that we moved due to Amber restrictions; rebooked for 2 weeks in July (our 25th Anniversary - our first visit to San Stef was to celebrate our 10th anniversary) moved again due to the same reasons. We're bringing friends with us this time and one is still working and not able to quarantine on return. So, based on the latest update on easing restrictions and the assumption (I appreciate its a gamble) that either quarantine will be eased or fingers crossed Corfu might be moved to Green status, we've changed our flights again (last chance before charges will apply) and hopefully having a week in August.

If things don't dramatically change again by the end of August, who knows we might even squeeze in a cheeky return towards the end of the season. So, keeping fingers firmly crossed and hoping as many people can make it during the next few weeks 😎

We have flights for 2 weeks from 8th June and had The Perros booked directly, with car hire from Dimitra & Manos, but following the Amber announcement we've had to postpone once again. Whilst we're not working at the moment, friends travelling with us are and the self-quarantine on return makes it untenable at the moment.

But, we have our 25th Anniversary coming up in July and we're hopeful we might be able to make it then if things have relaxed significantly and the virus is under more control. We found San Stefanos for our 10th Anniversary, so would love to celebrate our 25th there once again.

Fingers crossed...

Information and help please / Re: COVID tests
« on: April 12, 2021, 01:07:04 PM »
Hi Heathy,

From what I was reading in the UK press over the weekend, the lateral flow test (cheaper version) will be supplied before you travel, so that you have one to perform the test whilst you are away. Then, upon return you may need to take the more robust PCR test. But, there will be changes to process and what we will have to do for safe travel over the coming weeks and months, so expect changes and hopefully more cost effective testing.

Good luck.

Hi Lesley,

Yes it is. Some restrictions are easing from next Monday (29th March) when we'll be able to meet up to 6 people in our gardens once again. The government have announced this morning that the £5k travel fine will come into affect to coincide with this easing next week, but we still can't travel right now anyway, so just a financial warning for people thinking they might travel I guess.

The government are also in talks right now (according to Matt Hancock this morning) with a Global Travel Taskforce, the findings and recommendations of which will form the decisions to be announced on Monday 12th April. But, as with most of these discussions you can expect most of the detail to be leaked out beforehand.

Fingers crossed for a positive update.

I had my first covid jab yesterday and my wife had hers about 4 weeks ago. They really seem to be ramping up the vaccine delivery in the midlands, so we are hopeful of a San Stef break this year, although appreciate later in the season will probably be safer all round as we keep an eye on all things this year. Its far too early to tell right now, but we are optimistic. Its also good to hear the positive comments coming from the Greek government, which bodes well. Personally, I think that providing we get a digital vaccine ID/Passport sorted out and tie this into negative covid tests before/during/after travel (traveller pays) then we should be close to having much safer travel for all.

Good luck everyone and fingers crossed. Keep safe and well.

Where to stay / Romanza Villas
« on: February 15, 2021, 01:52:14 PM »
Good morning all.

I regularly get updates of properties for sale and dream one day of owning a property in San Stef. Very interested to see one of the Romanza Villas come onto the market last week, details here:

https://www.kentriki.gr/residential/1226/beautiful-house-only-few-meters-beach

These new villas have always looked appealing since they were completed a couple of years ago and the reviews on Trip Advisor are excellent:

We may need to join forces with like-minded folks though to make this one a reality  :) 8)

San Stefanos news and views / Re: How long have you been a member?
« on: June 18, 2020, 01:28:13 PM »
Morning all.

August 2009 for me, which was soon after finding San Stefanos and was our first foreign holiday in 10 years to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We stayed at Voula, fell in love with the resort and island and have returned pretty much every year since. We've stayed at Rose Garden and Theresa, but predominantly return to Perros, which has been our particular favourite over the years.

During one of our holidays, back in 2012, I created a website and wrote a blog during our 2 week holiday. If you need a distraction at the moment, you may find some of the ramblings of interest and hopefully bring back some memories:

https://www.lovecorfu.com/blog

I had planned to commercialise the website at some point, but it ended up with very little content. I have refreshed it recently, but as mentioned it remains as a possible project for the future.

Enjoy and take care all.

Where to stay / Re: Perros Hotel

We've always just left valuables in a locked case on top of a wardrobe when staying at The Perros. Like most accommodation they are very safe and we've never experienced any issues. I know that's tempting fate, so will also take advantage of the new safety deposit boxes in each room. I've been in touch with Nicola this week and she has confirmed they are now available.

Have a great holiday.

Out and About / Re: Minibus tour
« on: September 04, 2019, 02:56:21 PM »
Yes, we'll be doing something similar this year Jules.

We purchased the Corfu Villages book by Steve Ford a few years ago, and as we have a hire car for the 2 weeks, normally pick 3-4 different villages that we haven't visited before and make a point of exploring somewhere new each holiday. This year we're focusing on a couple of villages in the central region and another on the South East coast. Its a great way to see new places and have a good walk/explore when you get there. No doubt we'll also pop over to Corfu Town on a couple of occasions as well.

I've also been in touch with Steve separately (via FB), as he has a place in Doukades and when he is on the island he also arranges personal mini-bus tours and will collect/drop you off from your resort, which sounds like a good option if you haven't got a hire car.

Have a great holiday.
