Where to stay / Paralia.
« Last post by WINKIE on July 07, 2025, 03:27:22 PM »
Located next to Delfino Blu, these suites are fabulous, we stayed one week in the Island suite for Mrs Winkies birthday. Admittedly, they are expensive, but for a special occasion, like ours, they are an amazing place to celebrate. Fully fitted kitchen, separate walk in rain shower and loo, toiletries included, and large comfy bed. Outside, is an incredible patio, with loungers, table and chairs, bali bed, and your own private pool, and the best of all, the view of the beach and sea. We booked with Booking. Com, but you can book with Kostas, the Condor owners son. Downtairs, is the Joia pool and bar, again, this is an amazing place to lunch, drink and swim, and a lovely beach view.

Pool area still not complete, the drains at the pool edge still to be installed, but what a transformation, it is really lovely with the new loungers and flowers around.

Many thanks for the posts Winkie as with others posting it is so nice for those of us not going to read about SS. You can almost feel you are there again enjoying the little Greek village. Okay it might no longer be such a little village but we still have memories of how it was and of all the lovely people we met there. Have to say the airport going back was always a nightmare, but last time we were there (Jet2 flight) it was quite straightforward, better than the Manchester experience going.

Agree about the beach and sun beds, it was shocking to see it piled in front of Waves etc, a giant mound of rotting seaweed stood there for a few days, it was eventually removed on on second last day. Another concern for us was the small bridge used for crossing the small smelly stream, it is broken in the middle, and no handrail, would not take much to repair. The sunbeds, oh dear, so close to one another, crammed like sardines in a tin, prices ranged from 7 euroes to 10 with comp water. Still our favourite beach ever, just so lovely .

At waves, has anyone tried their Meat Pikilia or their Seafood Pikilia?  Not on the menu.
We haven’t, don’t think we would manage it all.

Geo, there appeared to be a fewer items on each restaurant we visited, especially LP, Waves no longer do my favourite lamb shank, neither do Olympia. Hope you are both well.

Scottygirl, can’t disagree about Waves, one of our favourites too and excellent value. Any other restaurants that have made it to your favourite list?

Still here in SS. Very hot which is good. Lots of repeaters but also lots of new people. Restaurants are busier now and in my opinion Waves is still the best restaurant but still got more to try. Seaweed building up again as not been cleared since we have been here. Bar 180 degrees is nice and they now have a giant size heart at the front of the bar where you can get a lovely sunset or sea photo.

Ahh Fedra Mare, what a great place to spend your anniversary trip. We are back there in 3 weeks time. As you say the breakfasts are off the scale.
Shame about the beach, the seaweed really needs keeping on top of. It was either last year or the year before that the sunbed law was introduced, I believe designed to ensure that enough beach is free for general use. But I hate being on a sunbed arms length from a stranger and the last two years Thomas boats hasn’t had his beds out which was our preference because of the space afforded between them. Did he have them out this year Tredegar Boy?
Your restaurant choices was a carbon copy of our favourites, only previously experienced bookings necessary at Manthos and Sandhills, so it will be interesting to see how it is during the school holidays when we have to go.
What was your no.1 restaurant TB?

Ref the costs, yes they have definitely increased and that makes a budget holiday a thing of the past and I can see the dilemma when compared to your cruise. Our 2 weeks in SS in total is now about 3/4 of the cost of an 11 night trip to St Lucia or Antigua in a good quality all inclusive. If we picked more expensive accommodation like Paralia apartments or Delfino then it would be about the same price as its low season in the Caribbean.

That said over the last couple of years we have holidayed in other European resorts too, Bitez in Turkey, Pefkos in Rhodes, Matagorda Lanzarote and Puerto Mogan Gran Canaria. All our average daily spend was higher than in SS. Main courses that are 15€ in SS we find our 20-25 elsewhere. Even with more self catering salad lunches we were spending more. But we haven’t been this year yet so we will see, I’ll make sure we take a slush fund!

Got back last Friday (27th) after our 2 week stay at Fedra and our first visit since 2019.

Well there have been lots of changes of which some were good others less so.
Staying at Fedra was once again brilliant. Dimi and Charitini have again raised their game with excellent accommodation, service and a breakfast which is so extensive you don't need anything else to eat until the evening.

The overall quality of food in the places we ate was very good indeed. We ate at Fantasea, Manthos, Mistral, Sandhill, Waves, Cicala, Olympia, Little Prince and Zorba's. Surprisingly we found you had to book a table for most places especially Manthos, Sandhill and Olympia. You had no chance of getting a table by just rocking up as in previous years. The only place we ate at which didn't seem especially busy was Cicala which was difficult to understand as the food was very very good. Prices were very much higher than our last visit and in some cases very much on a par with what we experience here in south Wales.

The weather was gorgeous.....30 degrees each day with a variable breeze.

The beach was a different matter. The area to the left of the stream was covered in seaweed which by the time we left was 3/4 foot high. No clearance in the 2 weeks we were there. On top of that dogs were being allowed onto the beach especially in the evenings where we saw some owners allowing their dog to do their busy at the waters edge. Seeing this was a first for us. Apparently the responsibility for the cleanliness of the beach falls to the mayor. He's clearly failing in that duty. The sunbeds to the right of the stream were packed together as the license is based on the space rather than the number of beds. It looked a bit like Benidorm from a distance.

Even though the beach was relatively quiet the taverna's were very busy from what we saw. Disappointingly the Condor was the only place that had any live music and that was a bit ropey.

All in all it was a lovely holiday. A special trip to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary but I don't see us going back in the immediate future as the amount of money we spent was comparable to our Sky Princess cruise last September and then we didn't have to fly.

Great review TB, many thanks. Good to hear you had a good time for what was a special event. Let us hope they don't kill the golden goose with those not so good changes. The seaweed and the beds I could put up with, but the dogs !
