First time in Corfu
« on: March 30, 2012, 12:38:38 PM »
We've been to a number of Greek islands but 8 June 2012 will begin our first visit to Corfu. My wife & I (mature couple) will be staying at Little Prince Apartments for 2 weeks. We enjoy lazing around the pool during the day with maybe a mid-morning stroll for coffee & going out for dinner at a taverna. We also enjoy taking part in fun quizzes. Our favourite resort is Elounda (Crete) - we've been there 6 times & are due to return in September. What do we like about Elounda? - laid back resort, friendly locals, a pretty harbour, enough tavernas that you can eat in a different one every night of a 2 week holiday (we actually have 4 or 5 favourites that we return to 2 or 3 times during those 2 weeks), bars with no rowdyism or drunks spilling out onto the streets. San Stefanos looks like it will be a good fit for us but any recommendations on where to go & what to avoid will be most welcome.
Mike

You could have been describing AG. Stef and my husband and myself there.
Our days are spent almost exactly as that, and we also enjoy a fun quiz.
Keep an eye on the notice board outside the Thomas Bay Hotel, as that will
announce when their quiz takes place.
We're there from the 4th June for two weeks so I'm sure our paths will cross
at some point.
The only place we avoid is the Condor at night as we're not fans of tribute acts, but last
year others we met were raving about them.
We try not to miss the Nafsica for dinner, one of our favourites, and The Waves taverna on the beach is
perfect for a light lunch.
From what I've heard you'll certainly enjoy the Little Prince.

Ag Stef is small and pleasant. Little Prince is a great place to stay, and Dimitris, Pippina and Michalis will make you instantly welcome.

There's really nowhere to avoid. Switch off and relax.

You could try Speros' quiz at Nafsica. Never actually taken part, but overheard it whilst eating a wonderful meal. Speros is a bit of a polymath, and it had some seriously hard questions!

With a little bit of effort you can take your morning walk up to the top of the south promontory and have coffee in Akrotiri - beautiful bar with fantastic views. And, of course, Ag Stef has a superb beach - it's a goodly walk from one end to the other.

Most of us in the forum will be amazed if you don't get hooked by the subtle magic of the place. It's hooked us!

We visited Elounda (Crete) in 2010 and then Aghios Stefanos (Little Prince) in 2011, enjoyed both and you will too. We are returning to the Little Prince this July / August - a first for us! - having previously picked a new island every year.

We have also holidayed in Elounda several times and loved it. You will find San Stefanos just as enjoyable and relaxing only difference there are some hills to walk up but the views are worth every step.As for tavernas you will be spoilt for choice.

I'm sure you will find the Little Prince and Ag. Stef a wonderful place to stay, and will be going back there with the rest of us.
We've never relaxed so quickly anywhere else.
There are plenty of great places to eat and you're bound to find you're favourites like the rest of us (there is plenty of suggestions of where to eat on the forum - everyone has their own favourites).
We can recommend the quiz night at the Thomas Bay.
Have great time in Ag. Stef

I would agree with all the above, except give the Condor a try - some nights are most entertaining, you may well love it.
It is a bar with entertainment, (food as well), for all ages, some nights you will like and some maybe not - personal choice rules!!
- - - - but you will always feel comfortable, young or old.
Your hosts Stefanos and Athina will see to that, and if you want to dance - you can - - feel free.
As Jim say's  - there is nowhere you should avoid, a lovely chill-out place to go, lovely people, great food - - just pick whatever suits you,
you will be welcome anywhere and feel part of the family and the village when you leave.
Happy Days in Agios Stefanos, Avliotes, Corfu!! TonyCo1

The things you have enjoyed about Elounda you will find the same at San Stefanos. No lager louts plenty of places to eat for a fortnights holiday and a few bars that are lovely to chill out in. All the locals are very friendly (young and old alike). Nice local walks or if you feel inclined some walks a little longer . San Stefanos travel have organised walks as well.

We'll be surprised if you don't have a good time. It's a place where you do what you want. Lie by pool, lie on beach. Take a boat trip to the islands which make the sunset so beautiful. Try the great trip up to Mount Pankokator available from the trio of incredibly beautiful women in San Stef Travel. It's up to you.

When you go somewhere for the first time the trip is full of apprehension. When you go back to Ag Stef after that you will be hugged and greeted as a long-lost relative or friend. It's like coming to a second home. It's not the most beautiful village in the world, but it has fantastic views and wonderful people.

I couldn't tell you go here or don't go there. We all have our own preferences due to our own wants, likes and personalities. All I can say is that for such a small village there is something for everyone. On an evenings stroll you can find Greek dancing, various tribute acts, some live music , organised entertainment such as quizzes and bingo or even just chilling over a carafe of wine while chatting to fellow visitors or the friendly Corfiots.
Whatever you like you will find it. Just relax and enjoy.

It's wonderful there. So friendly. The atmosphere is catching and we all end up like laid back Greeks!!
Can't wait for Aug. 31st to go back there.
