Rubbish

I'm not wishing to start anything contentious or grumpy (and it won't stop us going) but do you think we'll have 'rubbishgate' again this year?

I think the village is well-organised if there's another strike...

I wonder if last year's rubbish has been cleared from the football pitch and the new harbour. At least they will have been able to burn rubbish during the Winter, not allowed to do that in the Summer.

I walked up past the football pitch in September,it had all been cleared away, only some broken wheelie bins lying around.

Wasn't the rubbish pile up caused by closure of the land fill site down south, with further problems accessing the proposed new one? I don't think it was strikes.

Whatever the reason, perhaps Greek economy,  severe local taxation and related impact upon the town council systems ? ....it was sad to see. Some ad hoc storage areas were on the verge of a health hazard. We took 6 first timers last year who naturally commented on the situation. Glad to say they are all returning this year as they could understand it was bejond the locals immediate control. I wonder if some first time visitors  may have left with a less positive impression and understanding? Fingers crossed it all runs smoothly this year.

I think that basically it was a lack of planning. The old quarry that was the landfill reached its limit but there wasn't anything in place to carry on.

The impression was not good - but it was an island-wide thing. Full marks to the Agios Stefanos people for being proactive and hiring some workmen to shift the rubbish to a more discreet place.

Rubbish gone, don't know where, but all good :) Had spoken to a few locals and they were trying to sort it out, looks like they have, thanks to them all. :) :)

Maybe the moral
of the story is - just go on holiday and leave things like rubbish to the locals.
