The amount of bureaucracy involved in getting away this year rivals Yes Minister.
By far the stupidest is the UK entry PLF system. I followed the advice earlier seen to do it and save it in advance, ready just to post within 48 hours of return. BUT, when I had got as far as possible, the kindly government informed me that it would only last 8 days after which I would have to do it again. Great! I will now rest content with having a log-in, and hope the internet is working in the village. The Greek PLF was easy, logical and swiftly done and acknowledged.
In what way will my return details change? I'm coming from the same place to the same place. I could do that in advance, print it, and answer the question "Have your details changed?" on entry.
Oh for the days when you could turn up at the airport with a passport and a ticket. Even TUI's previously excellent Print Your Boarding Pass system had changed to 48 hours before departure. When I was flying for work I used just to go to the airport with my passport. My ticket, booked by somebody else, was waiting at the Customer Service desk.
These days you need a holiday just from the effort of arranging one!
