Sounds ike we are a nation of I must have a drink at anytime...... Nothing to stop you going to the supermarket and enjoying the peace of the night sky with a glass or bottle of something on your patio/balcony or in your villa or on the beach.......

Some people like to socialise with others. We eat late and would have a night cap in Athens bar with friends. That's what we enjoy on our holiday...

Well it might be worth a try, the beach bit I mean Lesley. For us the other, on the balcony is why it has always been such an important aspect for us when looking for accommodation - it has to have such and with the views. It's why we loved the Tsaros the first year we went when it was first opened, and only single story. No pool below and really very few places to stay around it. Oh and pitch black, forget the torch going out on a night time was a nightmare coming back! But last year it was also nice to hear the sounds of people enjoying their holiday, sitting on that balcony sipping a vino or two. It might be a little different, but worth a try to be able to sit out in the warm evening, we look forward to doing so whenever it happens! Until then, it's a heavy (on top of light at times ) FLEECE here in the not so warm UK!

We all have different expectations of our holidays, which is why we return year on year. We are  creatures of habit and because of the  virus, our expectations wouldn't have been fulfilled, with the present restrictions and I hope next year is different and we can return again.

Thought of a solution for you late night /early morning drinkers/socialisers! Get up earlier, eat earlier and start socialising earlier and go to bed earlier!! ;D :D

Haha! Thanks Gillie, just wouldn't work for us. We eat late as it's too hot for us to eat earlier. We like our late nights. I'm in bed by 10pm at home, we like to do something different on holiday, we may be odd, but that's us. :)

I think a day in the life on holiday of people on here would be most interesting…. and likely very different!

I think you're right! It's good we're not all the same though. In normal times, where would some of the bars and restaurants be without us  night owls! ;D

I think the bottom line on this is that if people are sensible the restrictions will be lifted. August is a bad month for the invasion of the "I don't give a toss" brigade. I anticipate that September will see a return to civilised late-night companionship. It might be best if the restrictions were zoned, rather than by region. For example, we went to Kavos by accident one year. The beach was empty until about two in the afternoon, and thereafter by zombies. By night, you could hear the bang of shot-glasses being slammed down. Tour operators organised drinking competitions. We arrived on a night flight, and when the bus pulled into the village at six in the morning there were semi-naked lobster-pink young Brits cavorting in the streets. Fortunately, there was one very nice taverna that nobody but us and a couple of intelligent young women went to, and an under-populated vegetarian restaurant with excellent food. There were no towels in our accommodation, on the grounds that they always got lost on the beach.

But, we had a lovely expanse of sun and sea in the day, and good food and company in the evening.

That's what they are up against. Who can blame them?

I have to agree with you Jim. In all the years, we have only witnessed any trouble once and that was last year when a chap hit his sister in Zorbas it spilt out into Athens and the barstaff dealt with it appropriately. They weren't British. I agree with the zoning , these people ruin it for the rest of us.

I suppose living here (well in the main village Avliotes) and working down here in resort which I leave every late afternoon anyway around 5pm to return to my home and sit in my garden - is very different to being on holiday as I am probably much like anone else working around the world (whom works day shifts) in bed around 10pm most evernings.
However if the decision was I could have a holiday in Greece, enjoy the sun, good food, warmth and be free and only drink until 12pm or I could stay in UK if lucky in an area not on lockdown - I know what I would choose.  However that is not my decision as I am a worker not a holidaymaker so everything is relevant to those whom choose to holiday or not......

We can't travel at the moment, my husband is vulnerable and the virus is everywhere, so definitely wouldn't risk it. When we can travel, it will have to be for the right holiday for us. So for now, we are happy to stay in our home and we're  very lucky to have a beautiful garden to tend and sit in. We are booked for next year, so hope this nightmare is over by then.

I would suspect Lesley there is an element of the sun doesn’t really matter as it’s always available and not such a big deal?

We can all choose what holiday is right for us. We can go anywhere to get the Sun . But when you can't eat at your favourite taverna or have a late night drink with your friends and back to your rooms  by midnight, as nowhere is open, wearing facemasks all the time...I know where I would rather be.
