Paleokastritsa
Paleokastritsa is both the most popular and the most attractive resort on the North West coast of Corfu and is said to be one of the most scenic spots on the whole island.
It consists of six picturesque bays with clear blue waters, backed by emerald green cliffs. The cool crystal waters are ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
The best way to approach Paleokastritsa is by boat as you will see the beautiful caves and breathtaking landscape as you enter into the harbour.
On the right hand side of the main beach of Paleokastritsa, a steep road leads up to the Theotokos monastery. The monastery is built on the top of the cliff in the most idyllic setting, and is renowned for its beauty and magnificent outlook.
The whitewashed building sits amongst the olive trees, facing the deep blue sea and stands as a shrine to the sailors of the Ionian Sea.
The church has a lovely carved ceiling a beautiful garden and a small museum. Please don't take offence when asked to cover up before entering the church.
This is a relatively short trip from San Stefanos and a pleasant journey past Arillas, Afionas up on the cliff top and the horseshoe bay of AG Georgios.
You have plenty of time on this day trip to visit the caves, walk up to the monastery and stop for lunch at one of the fine selection of restaurants.
This is a very popular trip departing from San Stefanos harbour and you must book early to avoid disappointment.
