Greek Food

Help is at hand to help you to understand the Greek menu before you leave for Corfu. Try some of these recipes yourself at our other site www.scrumrecipes.com

Tzatziki

A yogurt dip with cucumber and garlic, eaten as an appetiser with fresh bread.

Taramasalata

A pinkish cod roe, with mashed potato, olive oil and lemon juice, eaten as an appetiser with fresh bread.

Tiropitta

A small savoury cheese pie in flaky pastry.

Dolmades

Vine leaves stuffed with wine, minced meat, onions, rice and herbs.

Keftedes

Meat balls made of lamb, onions, cinnamon, oregano and mint.

Horiatiki

A Greek salad consisting of cucumber, tomatoes, cabbage, onions and a soft goats cheese (feta).

Moussaka

Layers of Aubergine, minced meat and a cheesy, béchamel topping.

Souvlaki

Pieces of lamb, pork or chicken on skewers cooked over a charcoal grill.

Stifado

Beef braised in heavy onion and tomato sauce.

Sofrito

Slices of vea in garlic sauce with onions, herbs and wine.

Barbouni

Red mullet, usually dusted in flour and fried.

Bourdetto

Fish cooked in a spicy (paprika) sauce.

Kalamari

Baby squid coated in flour and fried.

Xifias

Swordfish.

Ochtapodi

Octopus cut in slices and then fried or boiled.

Baklava

A sweet made from layers of pastry and nuts soaked in honey.

Milopitta

An apple pie with flaky pastry.
