Where to eat in San Stefanos ( Agios Stefanos) - Corfu

San Stefanos has a wealth of dining options for all to enjoy. Whether your looking for a quick take away or a 5* dining experience, take your pick from San Stefanos’ excellent selection. Most restaurants within San Stefanos are family run businesses offering traditional Greek cuisine with international options on the menu too to suit all tastes. Most restaurants also offer a separate childrens menu and are family friendly. There are a handful of specialty restaurants within San Stefanos that offer that little something extra such as fresh sea food or specific cuisine i.e. Australian. Many of the local restaurants will entertain diners with traditional Greek music and dancing. Whatever you’re in the mood for, you’re sure to find it here. The Sunset has been run by the Gizakis family for over 20 years and is situated at the far end of the main street towards Avilotes. It has a varied menu to suit all tastes with a friendly atmosphere to match. The Sunset taverna has recently undergone a major re-vamp and now boasts an indoor bar area complete with an open fire and an extensive outside seating area equipped with comfy chairs and swings. The specials board outside is changed daily and often includes dishes such as;

*Florentina - a fillet of flat fish stuffed with spinach and feta cheese, then rolled up and served with a garlic sauce.
*Lamb Gastra - fresh lamb cooked in a secret mix of herbs and spices, fantastic.
*Pork Chop in mushrooms and wine sauce.

This restaurant is situated on the road to Arillas opposite the 3W's bar. As the name implies, they offer a real fusion of Greek and Australian cuisine. The dining area is set among a beautiful patio garden and offers a wide variety of dishes including kangaroo. It's a family run business with Australian Kerry and Greek Nikos ensuring that all of their guests are made to feel comfortable and relaxed, with Kerry sometimes even serenading her guests! One a week they host a BBQ evening consisting of chicken, pork and sausages all cooked in the front garden and accompanied by cob bread, potatoes and salad. These evenings are very popular so it's advised to book a table in advance. Here are some of the specialty dishes that you can expect to find within their delicious menu;

*Deep fried brie with mango chutney.
*Sweet potato salad with balsamic dressing.
*Kangaroo.

The Beachcombers restaurant is situated on the beachfront in the quieter area of San Stefanos, away from the hustle and bustle of the main street. You can sit back, relax and watch the sun set over the beach whilst enjoying quality freshly prepared food. The interior is stylish and modern, adding to that feeling of a 5* dining experience. Sue and Makis will make sure that your every need is met and you're sure to leave with a full tummy and a smile on your face. You can expect to find the following tantalising dishes on the menu;

*Pear, rocket and parmesan salad.
*Bruschetta with basil and tomatoes.

Manthos Taverna

Manthos Taverna was one of the first to open in San Stefanos and is now over 30 years old. You will be entertained by the tavernas original owner, Manthos, a well known character of the village with his exuberant personality. Taverna O'Manthos is situated on the road leading to the harbour opposite the Nafsika Hotel. It's a very traditional taverna boasting fantastic sea views and hosts a Greek evening once a week when you can dine surrounded by Greek music and dancers in their national costume. Fish specials change daily depending on the catch of the day, but you can also expect to see the following within the menu;

*Rabbit in tomato sauce with shallots.
*Beef fillet Metaxa.
*Freshly caught fish and other sea food.

   

Zorbas

ZorbasZorbas is situated on the main street of San Stefanos opposite the Thomas Bay Hotel. It boasts a traditional home cooked Greek menu that you can enjoy by candlelight under the stars. The mood is set with Greek music playing in the background and they put on a show every night when they turn down the lights and set the floor alight as the waiters show off their traditional dancing skills. Pavlos, the owner even joins in with the dancing, lifting tables with his mouth! The specials board outside is updated daily with selections such as;

*Kokinisto - Pieces of beef tenderly cooked in a red wine and tomato sauce.
*Beef Tsiganiko - Pieces of beef cooked in red wine sauce and baked in the oven with aubergine and topped with feta cheese.

 

The Waves

Waves tavernaThe Waves taverna is one of longest running eateries in San Stefanos and was at one point the location of the only telephone in the village. It's current owner, Angelos, has taken over the family run business from his father as is the tradition within many of the family businesses within San Stefanos. The Waves is located right on the beach and is a very popular choice for sun worshipers looking for a relaxed beachfront lunch, as well as in the evenings as guests dine in awe of one of the best views out over the Diapontia Islands that are illuminated every evening as the sun sets. The menu has a fantastic offering of Greek specialties as well as fresh fish dishes such as;

*Fresh sardines.
*Fresh squid.
*Home made moussaka.

   

Brouklis

Brouklis restaurant is located to the left of the crossroads in the center of Arillas. It is a relaxed and friendly family run taverna serving excellent authentic Corfiot cuisine. Brouklis is one of the longest running restaurants in the area and has kept its original design with an outdoor seating area sheltered by climbing, intertwining vines. The quality of food speaks for its self here as this is a popular choice even for the locals. It has a wide variety of home cooked traditional dishes including appetisers such as sardines, courgette balls and cheese pies. Main course dished include spit roast chicken or lamb, sofrito and many more Greek favourites. Brouklis has a tremendously welcoming atmosphere and Dimitris and his family will ensure that all your needs are met and expectations surpassed. There is a specials board outside that is updated daily to include many real Corfiot specialties such as:

*Pastitsada - Beef cooked in spicy tomato sauce with pasta.
*Sofrito - Tender beef cooked in a white wine and garlic sauce.
*Bourdetto - Fish in a hot paprika sauce.
*Pastitsio - Layered minced beef and pasta.

Dionysos

Dionysos is perched on the top of the hill in Afionas overlooking St. George's horse shoe bay. Its secluded location and beautiful cliff top views offer a unique relaxing setting for your dining experience. Dionysos was the Greek God of wine and good times, so the venue is aptly named. Its menu offers a vast selection of traditional dishes including kebabs, salads and mezes designed to be shared and eaten with fingers, usually consisting of stuffed vine leaves, cheese and spinach pies and tzatziki. Dionysos is just a short car journey from San Stefanos or a long walk for those who want to build up an appetite.

It's a high quality Greek restaurant offering a wide selection of local dishes. Olympia is ideal if you are looking for an extra special treat with quality food set in a lovely atmosphere. There is a specials board outside that is updated daily and usually offers a two course meal (starter and main) for a very reasonable price. Olympia is also open for lunch and has a beautiful terrace where you can bask in the afternoon sun. As well as the usual favourites you can also expect to find within the menu;

*A great selection of fresh salads including Caesar salad.

 

Little Prince

Little Prince restaurantLocated just off the main strip of San Stefanos, the Little Prince is an authentic Greek restaurant and this is reflected in their home cooked meals. It's a great choice if you love being surrounded by Greek music and dancing. The restaurant has a large sheltered outside eating area elevated from the road side. It's situated just off the main street of San Stefanos on the road to Arillas, opposite Mythika. Yiannis Grill is popular with the locals here too, and that's a sure sign of great quality. It has a beautiful fountain decorating the outside seating area and is a popular choice for both families and couples. The cheerful atmosphere is created by George and his two sons Dimitris and Spiros. They offer traditional Greek cuisine that they have perfected over the last 20 years. Romanza Hotel
