Where to eat?
Sunset Taverna
If you are looking for a typical Greek menu using fresh local produce then the Sunset Taverna is the place for you.
The Sunset has been run by the Gizakis family for over 20 years and is situated at the far end of the main street towards Avilotes. It has a very good varied menu to suit all tastes with a friendly atmosphere to match.
We have watched so many people just walk past the Sunset, some take a quick look at the menu, others don't even seem to notice that its there. We have just wanted to shout out "Go on, come on in and give it a try!"
Well this year you cannot fail to notice the Sunset, as it has been completely refurbished with an indoor bar area complete with an open fire, comfortable outside seating, a new roof and relaxing chairs for a beer before or after dinner, or both?
The Sunset always seem to serve the best Greek salad, a lovely fresh clean crispy salad which just seems to have the edge on all of the others.
We found that the 'chef recommends' on the blackboard outside was a great way to sample some freshly cooked local food.
Florentina - a fillet of flat fish stuffed with spinach and feta cheese, then rolled up and served with a garlic sauce.
Kleftico - Lamb chops cooked in the oven with herbs (rosemary), then boned and covered in sautéed peppers, onions, tomatoes and melted cheese.
Lamb Gastra - fresh lamb cooked in a secret mix of herbs and spices, fantastic.
Pork Chop in wine sauce - served with mushrooms and a wine sauce.
Pepper Fillet Steak - stuffed with cheese, ham and topped with green peppers before being baked in the oven
Fresh Fish - is delivered every other day and varies depending on the local fisherman's daily catch it is absolutely delicious, sardines cooked over charcoal with a fresh lemon are the best. just ask Spiros and he will let you choose your own fish before it is cooked.
Full English Breakfast - two eggs, English Bacon, English Sausage, fried mushrooms and beans served with toast, butter, jam and tea, coffee and orange juice.
